    02What we found

What we found on 3 GP or medical-centre websites

Someone looking for a doctor nearby wants to see the area and the services before they tap. Three websites is a very small sample, so please read the counts below as what we saw on those three, and not as a pattern for every medical centre.

No short summary under the link

3 of 3 GP or medical-centre websites we checked have pages with no short summary for Google to show under the link (no meta description).

Why it costs enquiries. Someone looking for a doctor often needs an answer quickly. With no summary, Google fills the gap and may show the wrong line.

The fix. Add a short summary to each page: what the page is for, and where the centre is.

Page titles that do not say where or what

3 of 3 GP or medical-centre websites we checked have page titles that do not say the area or the treatment, so a nearby patient cannot tell what the page is.

Why it costs enquiries. A plain name does not tell a person nearby that you offer the service they need. They choose a title that does.

The fix. Start each page title with the service and the area, then the centre name.

Heavy pictures or a slow home page

2 of 3 GP or medical-centre websites we checked have very large pictures or a slow home page, which is hard going on a phone.

Why it costs enquiries. Many patients search on a phone. A page that is slow to open can lose them before they read a word.

The fix. Make the pictures smaller before you upload them, and open the home page on a phone to see how long it takes.

Each count is the number of our first-look reports on GP or medical-centre websites that list the problem. It is not a full audit of any one site.
