    02What we found

What we found on 10 physio websites

A person with a sore back searches for the pain, not for your clinic name. If your pages do not say which injuries and areas you treat, Google has little to match them to. This is a small sample, 10 websites, so read it as a first look and not as a trend. These are the three problems that came up most often.

Page titles with no area or treatment

6 of 10 physio websites we checked have page titles that do not say the area or the treatment, so a nearby patient cannot tell what the page is.

Why it costs enquiries. People search for the problem, such as back pain. A title that names no injury or area gives Google little to match.

The fix. Give each page a title that names the injury or area you treat, and the place you are in.

An out-of-date year in the footer

6 of 10 physio websites we checked show an out-of-date year in the footer, which makes the site look unmaintained.

Why it costs enquiries. A footer that still shows an old year looks as though nobody is looking after the site. A visitor may wonder how current the rest is.

The fix. Change the year now, or set the footer to show the current year by itself.

No short summary under the link

4 of 10 physio websites we checked have pages with no short summary for Google to show under the link (no meta description).

Why it costs enquiries. The summary is the grey text under the link. When it is missing, Google chooses what to show, and it may skip the line a patient needs.

The fix. Add a one-sentence summary to the home page and to each page about an injury or treatment.

Each count is the number of our first-look reports on physio websites that list the problem. It is not a full audit of any one site.
