    02What we found

What we found on 6 vet websites

A pet owner who is worried about a dog or a cat does not scroll for long. They tap the clinic that says clearly what it does and where it is. We checked only 6 vet websites, so this is a first look, not a trend, but the same few problems came up on nearly every one.

No short summary under the link

6 of 6 vet websites we checked have pages with no short summary for Google to show under the link (no meta description).

Why it costs enquiries. Google then chooses the text under your link itself. It may not be the part a pet owner needs, such as the services or where you are.

The fix. Add a short summary to each page that names the service and the town.

Page titles that do not say where or what

6 of 6 vet websites we checked have page titles that do not say the area or the treatment, so a nearby patient cannot tell what the page is.

Why it costs enquiries. Owners search for a service near them, for a particular kind of pet. A title with no service or area is easy to scroll past.

The fix. Say the pets, the service and the area in each page title.

A form with no privacy notice

5 of 6 vet websites we checked have an enquiry or booking form with no privacy notice we could find on the pages we read. A notice may exist on a page we did not read.

Why it costs enquiries. Owners type a phone number and their pet’s problem into these forms. A line saying who sees it, and why, helps them trust the form.

The fix. Put a privacy notice link next to every enquiry and booking form.

Each count is the number of our first-look reports on vet websites that list the problem. It is not a full audit of any one site.
